When our founder, Shrawan Nepali, first opened the doors to Ama Ghar in 2001, he did so with a dream to provide a loving home, education and lifelong familial ties for at-risk youth in Nepal. Ama Ghar welcomed 14 children home that first year. Now, 22 years later, 101 children have passed through our doors and call Ama Ghar “home.”
Now we look to the future – and the next generation of Nepali children we can support – together. The number of street children has increased 300% since Covid hit. Inflation in Nepal is over 7.8% and job opportunities are limited. There is increased pressure to take in more children, and we must rally the resources to meet that need. We need your support more than ever. Our family goal is to make Ama Ghar a long-term, sustainable home where the next generations can continue to flourish, and that those who transition out of Ama Ghar can live as successful, independent adults.
Thank you to the many of you who have already donated generously this year. No matter the size, every donation is so important to these children – thank you. To bring us into 2024, here’s what your continued support can do:
- $2,000 ($167/mo.) – Support one young child (in Class 10 or below) for an entire year, including food, medical care, counseling and school fees. You will receive updates about that child’s activities twice a year so you can stay connected.
- $1,000 ($83/mo.) – Provide textbooks for one year for all elementary school age students or one computer for our computer lab.
- $500 ($42/mo.) – Treat the kids to one all-day outing, including bus rentals and meals
- $250 – Pay for all meals for four children for one month.
- $100 – Cover the cost for art supplies and craft materials for school projects for one month.
